Ayúdanos a cubrir los gastos veterinarios de Blanco y Niña

Blanco es nuestro gato de 19 años. 

Cuando nos dimos cuenta de que teníamos que huir de Venezuela hace 3 años, decidimos que no dejaríamos a nadie atrás. Y así, a pesar de lo difícil que fue, finalmente nos fuimos en 2018 (mi esposa y yo) con nuestros 5 gatos. Tristemente, y como consecuencia del largo viaje y el estrés, dos de nuestros gatos fallecieron al poco tiempo de llegar a Ecuador. Afortunadamente, tuvieron la oportunidad de vivir una larga vida en un hogar lleno de amor antes de cruzar el arcoíris.

Pero ahora, nuestro peludo mayor ha desarrollado dos tumores horribles, y uno de ellos está creciendo muy agresivamente en su espalda (como se puede ver en las fotos) por lo que necesita ser removido lo antes posible para evitar que invada sus órganos internos o su columna. Mientras tanto, vive muy incómodo y con mucho malestar. Hasta el punto, que recientemente nos hemos visto obligadas a cubrir el bulto con una venda para que no se haga daño cuando se baña ansiosamente tratando de quitarse el tumor que tanto le molesta.

Blanco necesita análisis de laboratorio, dos cirugías y atención post-operatoria; y aunque pudimos cubrir sus evaluaciones iniciales, en este momento ya no podemos pagar nada más. El veterinario ya hizo una evaluación inicial de su salud hace cinco semanas y piensa que Blanco es un buen candidato para una cirugía de extirpación exitosa. Así que todo lo que necesitamos son los fondos para ayudar a sanar a nuestro bebé peludo.

Además, su hermana Niña (también de 19 años) tiene problemas para comer. Su médico la revisó hace un mes y nos dijo que tiene una infección dental que le está causando grandes molestias a la hora de comer, y por esta razón come cada vez menos, lo que ha ocasionado que pierda mucho peso.

Los fondos que necesitamos son solo para cubrir los gastos veterinarios, laboratorio, cirugías, tratamiento y post-operatorios, tanto para Blanco como para Niña, que deben ser atendidos lo antes posible.

🔗 Help us cover Blanco and Niña’s vet expenses

When we realized that we had to flee Venezuela 3 years ago, we decided that we wouldn’t leave anyone behind. And so even when it was really hard, we (my wife and I) left with our 5 cats. But as a consequence of the long trip and the stress, 2 of our cats passed shortly after arriving in Ecuador. Thankfully, they got to live a long life in a loving home before crossing.

But now, our oldest furry boy has developed two awful tumors. One of them is very aggressively growing on his back (as you ca see on the pictures) and it needs to be removed as soon as possible before it invades his internal organs. Meanwhile, he is now in great discomfort and we’ve been forced to cover the lump so he won’t hurt himself while bathing.

Blanco needs lab work, two surgeries and post surgery care and right now we can’t afford any of that. The vet already evaluated his health five weeks ago and has ruled that he is a good candidate for a successful removal surgery. So all we need is the funds to help our furry baby heal.

Additionally, his sister Niña is having trouble eating. Her doctor checked her a month ago and told us that she has a tooth infection that is causing her great discomfort when eating, and she’s been losing a lot of weight.

The funds we need are only to cover the vet, lab, surgeries and post-op expenses for both Blanco and Niña and they need to be treated as soon as possible, so please consider helping us however you can, either by chipping in or by sharing this post on you social media so we can reach as many people as possible.

ES. Gracias a la poca ayuda que hemos recibido, pudimos evaluar más a fondo el estado de salud actual de Blanco. Los resultados de las pruebas son alentadores y solo estamos tratando de cubrir el monto total de su primera cirugía para extirpar el tumor, con suerte esta semana.

EN. Thanks to the little help we’ve received, we were able to evaluate further Blanco’s current health status. Tests results are encouraging and right now we’re just trying to cover the total amount of the expenses for his first surgery to get the bigger tumor removed.

UPDATE. FEB 21, 2022 / ACTUALIZACIÓN. 21 DE FEBRERO, 2022

ES. Finalmente hemos logrado que se haga la cirugía para extirpar el tumor más grande. Luego de ser removido todos quedamos muy sorprendidos por el tamaño y peso del tumor (120gr) que era bastante grande y pesado en relación con el tamaño y peso de Blanco. Le han tomado 12 puntos, tiene una herida inmensa que está sanando como se esperaba, a pesar que ha tenido un par de complicaciones.

Primero tuvo un sangrado persistente causado por un vaso que el veterinario finalmente se vio obligado a cauterizar. Y hace unos días tuvo un principio de neumonía que pudimos controlar a tiempo y que ya ha desaparecido por completo. Han sido días muy largos, pero el peligro ya pasó y ahora solo esperamos por su total recuperación de esta cirugía.

Los médicos veterinarios coinciden en que debemos esperar algunas semanas para poder revaluar el segundo tumor que tiene en el lomo. Es bastante probable que este tumor sea posvacunal, algo que nos preocupa mucho porque estos tumores suelen ser muy persistentes y peligrosos. Pero por la edad, nos vemos obligadas a esperar antes de reconsiderar las posibilidades de otra cirugía.

A blanco lo intervinieron con sedación suave y anestesia inhalada para minimizar los riesgos de complicaciones y no comprometer hígado y riñones.

Actualmente estamos esperando los resultados de la biopsia, para saber si Blanco necesitará algún tratamiento adicional, como quimioterapia, aunque nos sentimos optimistas y confiamos en que no será necesario.

EN. We have finally managed to get Blanco’s surgery done and the largest tumor has been finally removed. After the surgery we were all very surprised by the size and weight of the tumor (120gr) which was quite large and heavy in relation to Blanco’s size and weight. 12 stitches were taken, he has a huge wound that is thankfully healing as expected, even though he’s had a couple complications.

First he had persistent bleeding caused by a blood vessel that the vet was eventually forced to cauterize. And a few days ago he had pneumonia symptoms that we were able to treat in time and has now completely disappeared. We’ve been through a very long month, but the post surgery danger is finally over and now we’re just expecting his full recovery.

Doctors agree that we must wait a few weeks to be able to reevaluate the second tumor on his back because It’s very likely a post-vaccinal tumor. This very worrying because these kind of tumors tend to be very persistent and aggressive. But due to his age, we are forced to wait some time before reconsidering the possibility of another surgery.

Blanco underwent surgery with mild sedation and inhaled anesthesia to minimize the risk of complications and to avoid compromising his liver or kidneys.

We are currently awaiting the results of the biopsy to find out if Blanco will need any additional treatment, such as chemotherapy, although we are optimistic and confident that none additional treatment will be necessary.

ES. La herida de Blanco está sanando bastante bien y rápido. Hoy tuvo su chequeo médico para revisar los puntos y se decidió remover 4 para ayudar a la piel a recuperar su elasticidad, porque perdió un área grande y los puntos restringen mucho la movilidad y ralentizan la recuperación. Estamos lavando la herida diariamente y aplicando un ungüento de Aloe Vera para ayudar con la cicatrización y la humectación de la piel.

El informe histopatológico reveló que el tumor era un tipo de Sarcoma en etapas iniciales que no mostró signos de infiltración, es decir, que estaba contenido en el área que fue removida, y que de acuerdo al patólogo y el médico veterinario no requiere de tratamientos adicionales. La prognosis del gordito es muy buena y tenemos muchas razones para celebrar.

EN. Blanco’s wound is healing pretty well and fast. Today he had his medical check-up see how the stitches were doing. Because a very large area was removed with the tumor and the stitches greatly restrict the area’s mobility it was decided to remove 4 of the stitches to help the skin recover its elasticity. We are cleaning the wound on a daily basis and applying an Aloe Vera ointment to help with healing and moisturizing of the skin.

The histopathological report revealed that the tumor was a type of Sarcoma in early stages that showed no signs of infiltration, that is, it was contained in the area that was removed, so it is the pathologist and the vet doctor’s opinion, that Blanco won’t require any additional treatments. Our Furball’s prognosis is very good and we have loads of reasons to celebrate.

Por la extensión de la herida, el veterinario recomendó ir retirando los puntos progresivamente a lo largo de 3 semanas; el último en retirar fue el responsable de soportar más presión en un área en donde la piel quedó muy ajustada, pero ese último punto se retiró ayer, 22 de marzo. Probamos dejarlo un rato sin el traje post-quirúrgico para permitirle descansar ayudarlo a pasar el mal humor de tenerlo puesto por tanto tiempo, pero la prueba resultó en que se bañara hasta hacerse un poco de daño, así que tendrá que soportar el traje hasta que el pelo le vuelva a salir. Por alguna razón, el área se ha quedado completamente calva y parecería que va a tardar a recuperar su pelaje, así que nos esperan largos días y noches de mal humor.
